About Hush

New York Professional Soundproofing Company

Professional Soundproofing Company, Hush NYC, Acoustical Analysis

Professional Soundproofing and Noise Control by Hush

Hush operates as a professional soundproofing company based in New York City, grounded in acoustical analysis. We specialize exclusively in noise and vibration control for residential, commercial, and professional buildings where performance, discretion, and technical accuracy matter.

As a soundproofing company, we combine acoustical consulting, analysis, and hands on construction. After evaluating how sound moves through a building, we design and implement assemblies that address those conditions directly.

Professional soundproofing is not one of many services we offer. It is the foundation of our practice.

Leadership in Building Acoustics and Professional Soundproofing

Founder and Acoustical Consultant

Hush was founded by Ned Shatzer, an Acoustical Consultant whose work spans measurement, modeling, and execution across residential, commercial, and mechanical environments. His practice is grounded in Building Acoustics and focused on qualified performance rather than theoretical assumptions alone.

Measurement and Acoustic Analysis

Acoustical analysis is conducted using Brüel and Kjær measurement equipment, including Class 1 sound level meters and a calibrated dodecahedron sound source to evaluate spatial sound behavior, transmission characteristics, and sound energy distribution under controlled conditions.

Room Acoustics and Reverberation Control

We evaluate room acoustics through RT60 measurements and use the results to adjust reverberation for clarity, speech intelligibility, and critical listening. These measurements guide the placement and balance of absorbers and diffusers, so studios and home theater environments maintain appropriate liveliness without excessive damping.

Building Acoustics and Assembly Design

We use acoustical modeling software to study wall systems prior to construction. This process includes evaluating STC performance of wall partitions, tracking how flanking paths through adjacent structural elements affect overall transmission loss, and determining how assembly composition influences sound isolation in real buildings.

Vibration, Structure Borne Noise, and Low Frequency Control

To capture vibration and structure borne noise accurately, we use accelerometers, especially on projects with low frequency excitation from subwoofers, mechanical equipment, and rotating systems. From there, the data helps identify resonance, buzz, and vibration traveling through rigid connections rather than airborne paths.

Materials, Damping, and Mechanical Properties

We select materials based on bulk modulus and rigidity, especially for impact damping and vibration control. For that reason, we use viscoelastic compounds to add damping and cut vibration transfer. In turn, the wall assembly performs better without adding unnecessary thickness.

Research, Testing, and ASTM E90 Laboratory Work

To advance this work, Ned has developed an ASTM E90 compliant laboratory focused specifically on transmission loss testing of wall assemblies for Building Acoustics. From there, the lab allows us to evaluate partition configurations under controlled conditions and track how mass distribution, rigidity, damping behavior, and boundary conditions influence airborne sound transmission. As a result, this research supports the development of space efficient acoustic assemblies that improve sound isolation performance while preserving usable square footage in acoustic assemblies.

Mechanical Systems and Infrastructure Noise

Beyond residential work, we also handle elevators, pump rooms, boilers, and HVAC equipment. In these spaces, airborne noise, vibration, and duct borne sound occur together. For that reason, we isolate equipment, add mass where needed, and control vibration paths. We also build acoustical sound mazes in ductwork to block noise while maintaining airflow.

How This Defines Hush

This technical foundation defines how Hush approaches professional soundproofing. Measurement guides design. Design guides construction. Performance is evaluated in situ.

Our Focus

Noise in urban buildings is complex. Sound travels through walls, ceilings, floors, and structural connections, so surface treatments and off the shelf products rarely solve the problem. For that reason, Hush approaches professional soundproofing with a clear understanding of building construction and sound transmission. Each project begins with an evaluation of noise sources and transmission paths. From there, we design and install systems that reduce airborne noise, impact noise, and vibration based on real building conditions. Ultimately, we deliver sound isolation solutions that perform consistently over time, not temporary or cosmetic improvements.

How We Work

Hush NYC provides established soundproofing systems to reduce noise and vibration transmission in residential and professional environments.

Expertise and Experience

Our work is proven by years of focused soundproofing projects in New York City buildings. We approach each project with a deep understanding of how sound behaves in real structures, informed by consulting, testing, and hands on construction.

Local Knowledge

Working extensively in New York City buildings gives us a clear understanding of common construction types and recurring noise paths. That familiarity allows us to anticipate challenges and address them efficiently during installation.

Customized Solutions

Every space presents different constraints. We use established soundproofing systems and adjust them to the conditions of the building, tailoring each solution while relying on methods that have a strong track record.

Exceptional Customer Service

Our process is structured, transparent, and collaborative from start to finish. Clear communication and follow through are central to how we work, and client feedback through our reviews reflects that consistency.

High-Quality Materials:

Soundproofing performance depends on the integrity of the assemblies used. Hush NYC relies on materials and systems that have demonstrated long term reliability, selecting composite components based on data and function rather than marketing claims.

Proven Track Record

Our experience spans a wide range of residential and select commercial projects throughout the city. The results of that work are reflected in repeat clients, referrals, and long standing professional relationships.

Installation and Execution

Skilled, Multidisciplinary Builders

Hush defines performance through both design and execution. For that reason, our installation team consists of highly skilled, multifaceted builders with backgrounds in carpentry, custom fabrication, and complex alterations within occupied buildings. They train specifically for acoustical construction, where tolerances stay tight and workmanship directly affects performance.

Precision in the Details

In soundproofing, small gaps, hard connections, or untreated openings can weaken the entire assembly. For that reason, our team checks these details during installation and corrects them as we go. In turn, we maintain isolation, airtight sealing, and damping throughout the build.

Training, Experience, and Accountability

This level of execution takes years of focused training. For that reason, we compensate our installers to match the technical demands of the work and the responsibility of building assemblies where performance is critical. As a result, the team works with deliberate precision, not rushed decisions or improvisation.

Collaborative Problem Solving

Collaboration drives how Hush operates. Each project starts with a clearly defined problem. Ned Shatzer sets the core acoustical objective, and the team then works together to refine the solution. From there, field experience, fabrication constraints, and construction sequencing shape the final approach. The strongest solution moves forward, without ego.
