Soundproofing Consultation
A soundproofing consultation with an acoustical consultant identifies how noise and vibration are traveling through your building, then defines the scope required for meaningful reduction.
What a soundproofing consultation covers
Walls, ceilings, and floors
We review assemblies, transitions, and common weak points during the soundproofing consultation, including perimeters, penetrations, and junctions where performance is often lost.
Noise type and transmission paths
We separate airborne sound, impact noise, and structure borne vibration, then identify dominant paths and likely flanking.
Mechanical, electrical, and plumbing
We evaluate MEP penetrations, pipe chases, conduit routes, and equipment supports that can transmit noise and vibration through building structure.
HVAC and ductwork
We assess duct borne transmission, supply and return paths, and whether isolation, lining, relocation, or sound mazes are required to reduce cross talk and mechanical noise.
Elevators, boiler rooms, chillers, and pumps
When building infrastructure contributes to the problem, the acoustical consultant reviews vibration paths, mounting conditions, and structural connections that carry low frequency energy into occupied areas.
Scope and next steps
You receive a clear recommendation for the appropriate soundproofing approach, realistic expectations, and the next steps toward engineering details and construction.

Residential • Virtual
Virtual Residential Consultation
Best for: early-stage apartment issues, feasibility checks, budget-sensitive planning.
- Video call walkthrough (space + conditions)
- Identify likely noise type + transmission path (airborne / impact / mechanical)
- High-level strategy (walls, ceiling, doors, penetrations)
- Practical next steps + rough cost guidance
- Field measurements
- Drawings
- Written report
Residential • On-Site
Residential Consultation
Best for: clients ready to move forward with a buildable scope.
- On-site walkthrough (construction conditions + constraints)
- Identify flanking paths (returns, chases, slabs, penetrations)
- Detailed sound reduction approach (assembly-level)
- Refined budget range tied to scope options
- Written report (unless separately requested)
Commercial
Commercial Consultation
Best for: offices, restaurants, gyms, retail, hotels, and mixed-use spaces.
- On-site evaluation (noise sources + building acoustics conditions)
- Isolation vs. treatment plan (sound reduction + echo reduction)
- Coordination notes (HVAC, access panels, penetrations, doors)
- Buildable scope direction for GC / trades
- Stamped engineering
- Formal written report (unless separately requested)
Documentation
Acoustical Analysis Report
Best for: legal, board, landlord, or documentation needs.
- Field evaluation + measurement as needed
- Existing condition analysis + transmission path narrative
- Performance-based recommendations
- Formal deliverable suitable for stakeholders
- Scope depends on access, building type, and objectives
If the project moves forward, the consultation fee is applied toward the construction scope. If we determine the issue cannot be addressed with a reasonable scope, the fee is refunded.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is included in a virtual consultation?
A virtual consultation includes a video walkthrough, discussion of noise sources and likely transmission paths, a high level strategy for walls, ceilings, and floors, a quote based on your measurements that may be adjusted after an in person visit, and clear go no go guidance. What is included in an in person residential soundproofing consultation?
An in person consultation includes an on site walkthrough, inspection of construction conditions, identification of flanking paths and constraints, a detailed soundproofing approach for walls, ceilings, and floors, engineering details for recommended assemblies, and a refined cost range tied to verified scope. Is the consultation fee applied to the project?
Yes. If you move forward with construction, the consultation fee is credited toward the project cost. What happens if Hush cannot solve my noise problem?
If we determine that the noise condition cannot be addressed to a meaningful level, we will tell you before you commit to a scope. When applicable, consultation fees can be refunded based on the terms discussed during scheduling.Do you provide quotes without a consultation?
We can provide preliminary cost guidance with basic measurements and information. However, accurate scope and pricing typically require either a virtual or in person consultation. What information should I have ready before scheduling?
If possible, have room dimensions, a brief description of the noise type, photos or a short video of the area, building type, and any renovation constraints. For virtual consultations, basic measurements improve the accuracy of the quote. How do I choose the right consultation type?
Virtual is best for early stage feasibility and budget guidance. In person is best when you are ready to confirm scope and move into construction. Commercial consultations are designed for offices and complex environments. An Acoustical Report is appropriate when formal documentation or measurements are required. How quickly can work begin after the consultation?
After scope is confirmed and scheduling is coordinated, projects can typically be planned quickly. Timing depends on building access, approvals, and the complexity of the assembly.Do you take before and after readings, and is there a guarantee for the noise reduction?
Yes. We can take before and after readings when measurement is included in the scope. In our service agreement, we guarantee a minimum 50 percent noise reduction, and we are typically aiming for 70 percent or more, depending on the noise type, existing construction, and flanking paths.
